Washington, January 1: An article in Discovery News has outlined the top 10 earth stories of the decade.
The number 10 story is the soaring oil prices in 2008, when the sale of gas-guzzling SUVs and other fuel-inefficient vehicles plummeted in the United States in the face of expensive oil.
Huge amounts of money were funneled into alternative fuels and politicians rediscovered a verve for "energy security."
At number 9 is the story that the waters human beings and other animals depend on is getting demonstrably richer in estrogen-mimicking drugs, as well as BPA, flame retardants, phthalates, atrazine and many other chemicals.
The number 8 story is that the list of animals that are showing signs of evolving has been growing, providing a ray of hope that perhaps some species may adapt to and survive such challenges as climate change.
For example, invasive cane toads in Australia were found to have evolved longer legs at the beginning of their invasion.
At number 7 is the story that this decade has seen some species pushed over and others pulled back from the brink of extinction, while others are going invasive in new ranges.
The number 6 story is the Sichuan earthquake in China on May 12, 2008, which resulted in the destruction of both life and property.he 7.9-magnitude event was the strongest quake to rock China since the 8.5 Richter Magnitude Chayu event 58 years earlier.
The science of the quake and its thousands of aftershocks is still underway.
At number 5 is the great Sumatra-Andaman earthquake of 2004, which resulted in the devastating Indian Ocean tsunami that spread from Indonesia to the shores of East Africa.
The magnitude 9.1 temblor and the massive tsunamis that followed claimed close to a quarter of a million lives, making it one of the worst natural disasters in human history.
At number 4 is the most active Atlantic hurricane season on record in 2005, which saw hurricanes like Katrina, Rita and Wilma, probably a result of the warming ocean temperatures.
The number 3 story is that new scourges from the animal world have been steadily slipping into humans and beginning fresh attacks, most notably in 2009 with H1N1, or "swine Flu', but also with Avian Flu, SARS, and Monkey Pox.
At number 2 is the story that human activities have made oceans of the world more acidic, endangering marine ecosystems worldwide. The number one story is that this past decade was the warmest on record, with glaciers melting much faster than ever expected.

Sleek design of the phone is astonishing. 3x4 keypad is quite roomy, headed with square navigation button which is bit raised then other keys. And the most beautiful part of the phone, eye candy design with loud noise............
Talking about the Features and Specifications which i found interesting after USING it.
- Its Price! - 5400 INR only. (Best Value for money in its class)
- Battery Performance - Personal rating 4.5/5. 1020 mAh capacity. Personal Experience Talktime : 5 hrs, Music Playback : 10 hrs, Video Playback : 3 hrs. This is mainly dependent of the kind of personal use of the device feature. Overall performance of battery is rewarding.
- Design - Slim, Sleek, Glossy, Available in vibrant Colours i.e Marine Blue, Red, Silver. (Region Dependent)
- 5 Dedicated Music Keys - Play/Pause, Previous, Next, Volume Up, Volume Down
- 3.5 mm Jack - Compatible with most of the personal hearing gadgets and music system i/ps
- Micro USB Slot - Suits best with the design and is technically sound. To be specific its, USB 2.0
- Micro SD Card Slot - Smallest available memory gadget available in market & u get 1GB card Free.
- Screen Size - 2 inch full dispaly with max. 256k colour. Its brillant and smart.
- Speaker - Personal rating would be 4/5. (Loudness, Clarity, Design, Working) Only thing annoying is the placement of speaker. In the ideal rest position i.e. screen facing up, speaker is left behind affecting the loudness during its working (ringing, music playing etc..) The external design of speaker is my personal favorite.
- Software/OS - Symbian 40 series phone software is worth best for user interface. Supports almost all required softwares/applications and almost all file formats for daily use. eg. Dictionary, Games, Mobile Office etc..
- Internet - Supports GPRS release 4 class 32, EDGE class 32, Can be used as modem for Offline PC. It supports HTML, xHTML. It supports WAP 2.0. and TCP/IP. It has built in MiniOpera Web Browser.
- Camera - 2.0 Megapixel. Though indoor night photography would be quite unpleasing, but outdoor is quite acceptable. It offers 4x zoom in photo shoot with 6 variable sizes and various white balance modes and colour tone modes. It has also Light balance mode. Videography is also supported with 2 screen sizes (max. 176x144 pixels) upto 15 fps (frames per second, its describes the motion capturing rate by device). My Personal rating about camera would be 3.5/5.
- Connectivity - Bluetooth, Micro USB, PC Suite, E-mail with attachments, MMS, SMS, and obviously Phone Calling!
Click here for viewing the Detailed Specifications (provided by manufacturer).
DRAWBACKS/ Lacking Features:
- No Dedicated Key for Camera - May be because its a Music Phone and no more space available to add a button.
- Video Playback - As such it internal memory is 30 MB (incl. of Preloaded Content), but while playing video file larger than 18 MB would give a creeping breaks, while is annoying. This is my personal experience.
- Keypad Design - This is personally concerned. i find it quite slippery due to plastic finish, otherwise quite roomy.
